DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER 4-8-09 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents, Spring Break is just around the corner.
The students and faculty have been anxiously waiting, actually counting
down the hours for the end of the day on Thursday.
Although we all love to see each other on a daily basis, it will be
wonderful to have some time off to recoup our energy for the hectic schedule
from now until the end of the year. It
will be a busy time for everyone. Spring Break is always thought of as time off and vacation. Let us not forget that our time of rest begins with the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord. Take time to be thankful for everything God has given us. How numerous, O Lord, my God, You have made Your wondrous deeds! And in Your
plans for us there is none to equal You. Should I wish to
declare or tell them, too many Are they to recount Psalm 40:6 PSAS

MRS.
DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER 4-2-09 ,-. Dear
SPPA Parents, Spring
break is quickly approaching and our days are busier than ever.
The Kindergarten class has baby chicks cheeping, the primary classes are
gearing up to see the play “Charlotte’s Web”, and
we are all preparing for our
day long retreat on Holy Thursday. Adding
to the excitement of spring arriving and the much anticipated time off, we had a
break in. However, all is well.
As always, the students and faculty handled the situation with ease. INTRODUCING -- COMMUNITY SAFE ACCOUNT I am pleased to introduce
the Community Safe account to you as a new way of communicating important
information, school closings, crisis situations, major upcoming events, etc.
This account has been set up thanks to the generosity of the Baldauf
Family. We will have a test run of
this system tonight (Thursday 4-2) at 7:00pm.
If you do not receive a phone call please call the school and let us
know. You can add a number or
delete a number if you need to do so.
This system will not accept extension numbers.
If you have a work number with an extension, we cannot call that number.
If your number changes, contact the office immediately.
FIRST MONTHLY RAFFLE WINNER $150.00 winner is Cheri
Morgan $50.00 winner is Alice Dunaway CONGRATULATIONS!
Your name has been put back in the pot for the next drawing.
RAFFLE REMINDER There seemed to be some
misunderstanding regarding the Raffle ticket turn in times.
Raffle tickets can still be bought and sold. The raffle is ongoing for a
full calendar year. If you turned in
unsold tickets, they are being given back to you to continue selling.
We have until the end of February 2010 to sell all 20 tickets. If you need more tickets please call Brenda at the school or
Terri Sweeney at 470-8940. The next
drawing will take place on or about May 1st. All tickets must be turned in on the last day of the
month to be eligible for that month’s drawing.
Again, anyone selling 50 tickets will get out of cleaning the school for
one turn. Mrs. Morgan has sold her
50 tickets and the Baldaufs have sold 60! WOW!!
Congratulations. To get out
of cleaning the school this school year you must sell your 50 by the end of
April. I need to stress again the
importance of meeting our goal for this fundraiser. Fundraising is the way we keep our tuition at the affordable
rate that we have. It costs much
more than the tuition we charge to educate our children.
We have another $5000 to go on this fundraiser.
We can meet this goal easily if we each sell our 20 tickets (or more).
KEEP CINCINNATI BEAUTIFUL Once again we are participating in the National Program designed to keep
our cities and country clean. Please
see the enclosed flyer and permission slip for more details. AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING INFORMATION Starting next Wednesday 4-8
students staying for after school tutoring will be picked up at the back door of
the cafeteria where they are dropped off in the morning. I
would also like to say that I feel this program is working great.
The kids work hard and get a lot accomplished.
The tutors are excellent. Thanks
to everyone who attend and help. SPRING PICTURES It is time for Spring
Pictures with Lifetouch Photography. Please
see the enclosed flyer for more information.
Eighth grade will be having their official 8th grade group and
individual pictures on that day also. The picture date
is April 21st. BOX TOP WINNERS FOR 3RD QUARTER Mrs. Kennedy’s class is

DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER MARCH
25, 2009 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents,
Due to the report cards going home today and no school on Friday, the
newsletter is a day early. First I
would like to thank everyone who attended the State of the School meeting last
night. We are all very busy keeping
up with our children, our jobs, and our own lives.
It is difficult to make time for everything. Due to time constraints today, I will write a summary for
next week’s newsletter. CONGRATULATIONS TO AMANDA FREEL Amanda has won the St. Paul Commandery
#59 Scholarship for next year. The
scholarship committee was very impressed with her application and essay.
Amanda has chosen to attend Mount Notre Dame for high school.
Congratulations.! WATER BOTTLES FOR GYM Now that the weather has warmed up, the
students need to stay hydrated during gym class. Students are allowed to bring a water bottle to class with
their name clearly marked on it. It
is preferred that they use a reusable water bottle with a pop up lid. 1ST DRAWING FOR THE MONTHLY
RAFFLE To be eligible for the 1st
drawing for our new Monthly Raffle tickets must be turned in by Tuesday March 31st.
Good luck to all of you who have already entered.
(I think my name is in there enough time that perhaps I will be the first
winner.) On that note, Mrs. Morgan
has almost reached her goal of selling 50 tickets to get out of cleaning the
school for one time! I know she has
some competition in Gina Baldauf. Is
there anyone out there who will beat them to 50? PARENT’S CLUB MEETING The next Parent’s Club meeting will be

DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER MARCH
19, 2009 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents, Tomorrow marks the end of the
third quarter. Our 8th
grade students are daydreaming about being an official high school student in a
very short time while the 7th grade students are already showing
signs of being the leaders of the school. Our
Kindergarten students look and act like first graders.
Each class has grown in every way and now they are ready to make the
final quarter the best for the transition to the next level.
Let’s applaud their efforts and continue to encourage them to do their
best work. This is a difficult time for them to stay focused and a
critical time to be on target academically. ****NEXT

FOOD DRIVE As an area school we have
been challenged to participate in the Curves Annual Food Drive.
All food will be donated to Valley Interfaith.
This is an activity we can participate in as a part of the Reading
community. It is an honor to be recognized by area businesses and asked
to participate in community events. The
goal for this collection is 6000 lbs of non perishable food.
Let’s show them how much we care.
Send in your donations by next Thursday.
CHALLENGE
FROM MRS. DONNELLY J I challenge the classes!
The class to bring in the most food will have an out of uniform day.
At the end of next Thursday we will weigh all the food collected for each
class to determine the winner. Good
luck! Does
anyone have scales to weigh the food? Give
me a call. Thanks! CLEANING
NEWS There has been a
miscalculation about the number of times during the year you are needed to clean
the building. It has been
discovered that each family will be cleaning the school building 5-6 times each
instead of the 4 times originally indicated.
We are sorry for this inconvenience.
On a positive note, it looks like our enrollment will be increasing some
for next year, so our number of times may go down to the original 4.
Let’s hope that is the case for many reasons. CLEANING

12, 2009 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents, Winter
keeps hanging on along with many illnesses.
It appears that the groundhog was right with his prediction of 6 more
weeks of winter. However, we do see
signs of spring with crocuses in bloom, daffodils peeking through the ground and
buds on trees beginning to appear. Lent
is a season of renewal with God giving us signs in nature of the renewal
process. FACULTY

that we have a new music teacher for grades 3 through 8. Mr. Rick Humphreys will be in the building each Wednesday

skill full time in music ministry for over 20 years. He will be offering piano and/or voice lessons to anyone age
6 and older for a fee. See the

MRS. DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER MARCH
5, 2009 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents,
March came in like a lion with cold and wind.
It is time for the lamb with warm air and sunshine. Spring brings many
challenges. The work load at school intensifies as the year end
approaches. The teachers are making
sure each child is prepared for the next grade level.
Please help your children focus on their academics (their job) through to
the end of the year. They tend to
get distracted with “other” things when the weather is warm and the days are
longer. Don’t forget the time
“Springs” forward Saturday night. We have Mass next
Wednesday with Fr. Benzer presiding. Make
plans to join us! LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
2+ Enclosed
in your envelope is a letter from the Board of Directors.
Please take a few minutes to sit and read this letter.
There are some very important items discussed in the letter that will
require your attention and action. As
stakeholders in this school, you are also caretakers.
Your involvement is necessary for continued success. The State of the School Address is your meeting.
Child care will be provided by the Principal Corp if needed. CONGRATULATIONS
VVV Congratulations
to our 8th grade class on their Confirmation held at the Cathedral in
Cincinnati. Confirmation denotes
the responsibility of spreading the word of God through deed and word,
continuing “the initiation of Baptism into the fullness of Christian life
within the Church.” (www.cin.org)
Our prayers are with you as you accept this responsibility. CHARACTER EDUCATION WINNERS Congratulations
to our new Character Education winners for the month of February.
Sensitivity was the trait. CJ
Bateman, Nash Morgan and Dani Crisp will represent our school all month with a
sign in their yard. The trait for
the month of March is Forgiveness. THINK SPRING – THINK SCRIPS
$$$ This is a great time of year to purchase your Scrips cards.
When considering your spring purchases, such as Easter clothes, candy,
flowers; think Scrips! There is a long list of merchants who participate in the
program. Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, UDF
and JC Penney’s are just a few examples.
This is a fund raiser that does not require you to sell anything or
purchase anything you would not normally purchase; you just purchase a Scrip
card first then the items. It
takes an extra step to purchase something but SPPA benefits financially from
that extra step. Make
it a habit. March orders are
due to the office by March 13th.
Your cards will be sent home the following Thursday in the Family
Envelope. For a complete list visit the Great Lakes Scrips website at www.glscrip.com
or contact Terri Sweeney at 326-1276 (daytime), 769-4239 (evening), or tsweeney34@hotmail.com.
Mrs. Hubble also has Scrips order
forms in the office. SPPA
MONTHLY RAFFLE SPPA is announcing the start of a new
fundraising event effective this month. See
the black and red flyer in your envelope for complete details.
You have been issued 20 tickets to sell.
Please note the ticket numbers you have been given.
You are responsible for those tickets.
The money for the tickets should be returned to the school office in an
envelope clearly marked Monthly Raffle.
This can be done at any time during the month.
Additional tickets will be given out only after the first 20 have been
sold and the money returned. If you
have any questions please contact Terri Sweeney at 326-1276, 769-4239, or tsweeney34@hotmail.com.
REMINDER The
Yankee Candle Fundraiser permission slips need to be turned in.
SPRING UNIFORM EXCHANGE
March
18th at the State of the School Address, a table will be set up for
your convenience to exchange uniforms that no longer fit or to trade in long
pants for short pants. Shorts can
be worn starting March 23rd – 4th quarter.
Please keep in mind that as your children grow taller, their shorts grow
shorter. Have them try on their
shorts prior to the day they plan to wear them.
Check the student handbook for guidelines.
COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE The
Reading Curves is sponsoring its annual Food Drive. Enclosed you will find a flyer with the information.
This is a good way for our school to be a part of a community event.

MRS. DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 26, 2009 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents,
Mardi Gras was wonderful! The
students milled around the building with prizes, hats, balloons, and enough
smiles to make it all worthwhile. Thank
you to Parent’s Club and all the individuals who made it possible. As always, the set up and clean up were quick and thorough. Thank
you. SAFETY WARNINGS - two
major areas of concern WALKING TO AND FROM SCHOOL – Yesterday
one of our students was walking home from school alone.
This student was approached and offered a ride by a man in his 40’s,
with gray hair and a tan. He was
driving a dark colored 4 door car, with tinted windows.
I spoke to the students this morning about this incident so they are
aware and cautious. I feel it is
important that you reiterate this point.
I also ask that children never walk to or from school alone. We are a great school family and many people are willing to
assist you transport your children if needed. FACE BOOK ACCOUNTS In light of the recent happenings with Face Book I ask that you speak to
your children about the hazards of having a face book account. What
is put on Face Book is open to the public. Many times our children do not recognize that some of the
information or images placed on this site can be damaging to the individual or
lead to your child being tracked to their home, school, or an outing that they
casually mention or blog about. I
recommend that you open an account yourself so you can monitor the activity
and information on your child(ren)’s site.
As parents you should have all pass-words for your child(ren)’s
accounts. This is not a private
site. Once you are in the account
it is all public. RECOGNITION
FOR OUR STUDENTS UPO We had three students
represent our school in the local God, Flag and Country program held by the
Fraternal Order of Eagles in Reading. We
are proud of their accomplishments. For
the 10-11 year old age group Eric Conner received Honorable mention, 12-13 year
old age group Erin Becker received 3rd place and 14-15 year old group
Dariean Carnine received Honorable mention.
Good Job. REGISTRATION
444 Thank you to those who have
turned in your registrations. I
emphasize again the importance of an accurate account for planning.

19, 2009 .-, Dear
SPPA Parents, The
students had a great time on Valentine’s Day and are now looking forward to
the Mardi Gras celebration. I am
also looking forward to this event since it will be my first SPPA Mardi Gras.
I lived in New Orleans for a while and experienced this event Creole/
Cajun style. It is quite a party.
I am sure I will not be disappointed, given the events the Academy has
sponsored so far this school year. Hard
working, dedicated and determined best describes all of you.
I continue to be amazed with the support you give each other and all of
us. CHARGER

thanks to Mrs. Carrizalles and Mrs. Cummins for their hard work with this
endeavor. Get your copy of the

or a new meaning for Valentine’s Day from a 1st grades point of
view in poetry. Hats off to all the
contributing writers. CAMPBELL’S

satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time.
As stated on the flyer the more desserts we sell the more per item we
earn. For example, if we sell 249
pies or less the Academy would earn $1.75 per item.
If we sell 500 or more we earn $3.75 per \item.
$2.00 per item is a huge difference.
(Plus if you buy 3 desserts you receive a free insulated bag.) The Market Day order form will be coming out
next week or you can order now online at marketday.com.
REGISTRATIONS
AND BUDGETING During the month of March we
will start our orders for books for 09-10.
Without an accurate count of students we cannot order books.
It is imperative that you send in your registrations so we know what we
need to order. If the registration fee is a problem right now please send in
your registration and call me to work out the details of the payment.
The registration fee will go toward the tuition for next year so it is
not lost money. We do accept
Master Card and Visa for the registration.
A 3% fee for the total amount will be added to the registration fee if
you choose this method of payment. ASH WEDNESDAY We will be attending noon
Mass at Sts. Peter and Paul Church next week for Ash Wednesday.

DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER 2-5-09 ,-. Dear SPPA Parents, Well, it happened again.
Thankfully, we were able to have a delay yesterday rather than miss a
full day. The snow amounts varied
widely across the area leaving some of us with worse road conditions than
others. Five miles per hour on the
highway can be frustrating and make for a very long commute.
It is now time for us to have some good weather.
Our Prayers go out to all those who are still without power in Arkansas,
Missouri, and Kentucky. GOD,

RESPONSIBILITY &
&
& I would like to take a moment to talk
about your children and their job as students.
Your children have a job to do. Their number one job, right now, is to be
a student. In a very competitive
world economy for their future wellbeing, they need to understand that their
academics are important. Many of
our students are involved in activities outside of school where coaches demand
their best effort. Those activities
require their time and attention. We
support their endeavors. However,
our students, your children, need to understand that they are responsible for
their school work first. They may
have aspirations of being professional athletes, professional dancers, gymnasts,
etc.; those are wonderful dreams and should be pursued.
Those dreams will only be enhanced with a good education.
The faculty at Sts. Peter and Paul Academy is helping your children build
a foundation for a lifetime of success. Less than their best work is not
acceptable. Your children are the only ones who can be responsible for their
work. As students they need your
encouragement, support, and sometimes a kick in the seat of the pants, but it is
their job, their responsibility.
A
NOTE REGARDING 2009-2010 As we
continue to plan for the upcoming school year we want to continue to keep you
updated as we go along as decisions are made.
Although we are continuing to investigate the possibility of returning to
the old Parish School location the Academy will remain at the current
location for 2009-2010. We are very
proud of our school and the current location serves our purpose very nicely.
Thanks to all of you, the building is always clean, in good repair, and
full of happy children.
We
are in the process of placing orders for books and supplies for next year. It is critical that your registrations be turned in for a
correct count for ordering. If you
have misplaced your registration please contact Mrs. Hubble for a replacement.

special thank you to all the people who attended the meeting last night
regarding the future of the Academy. It
was an opportunity for parents to speak what was in their heart about the
present location of the Academy versus the location at the old Sts. Peter and
Paul School by the Parish. The
state of the Academy’s finances was also presented so everyone is aware that
all decisions will be made based on our economic health.
Your continued hard work in the fund raising department is crucial to
avoid dipping into reserves.
MRS
DONNELLY’S NEWSLETTER December 4, 2008 .-, Dear SPPA Parents, We
are celebrating Advent each Monday with the lighting of a candle and daily
readings in anticipation of the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
We are also decorating the Jesse Tree with symbols of the true story of
Christmas. It is an exciting time
of year for children. As the days
pass it becomes more difficult for them to focus on their academics. The celebration of Advent and the Jesse Tree help keep them
grounded and in touch with why we are all here; to nurture the spiritual
formation of each child while educating the whole child. MASS DAY CHANGED
VV Please change your calendar. The Mass for next week has been changed from Wednesday to Friday 12-12-08. The time will remain the same at 1:45 in the afternoon. Fr. Rob Jack will be here to celebrate the Mass with us. Please make plans to join us. Ms. Hesse’s Kindergarten class is planning this Mass with the assistance of Mrs. Carrizales. TUITION LETTER Please
take time to read the enclosed letter regarding tuition for the 2009-2010
school year. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

the evening’s schedule singing a few Christmas songs to entertain you.
They will need to wear something red or green. COSTUMES FOR K-2 STUDENTS Please
send in your child’s Christmas Play costume on Friday Dec. 12th.
We would like the children to get accustomed to wearing some of their
attire while practicing. PARENT’S CLUB IN NEED OF HELP Parent’s Club is in need of workers to work the concession stand for VYO basketball games. This is a double duty activity. You get volunteer hours for working and Parent’s Club receives the proceeds. Please call Michelle Ellison to sign up to work a shift. STUDENT COUNCIL and the SPPA STUDENT BODY I would like to compliment the Student Council on how well they are handling the Penny War and the entire student body on stepping up to the challenge of battling for pennies. Everyone is having fun and the “pennies” are adding up even as class totals go negative. BAKE SALE NEXT WEEK The

cup of coffee and get comfortable. There
is a lot of information in this newsletter that you need to know.
In all seriousness, please take the time to look at each individual flyer
that is included and read each segment of the newsletter.
It is best to act on the information as soon as it is received or it gets
put into stack and forgotten. (I
must admit that happens at my house) You are such an important part of Sts.
Peter and Paul Academy. It is
important that you stay informed. FITNESS FUN Join

grade classes. K-4 will also be

Club has a couple of things going on that benefit both you as parents and your
children as beneficiaries of your hard work.
First: a reminder that the Poinsettia sale is still going on.

So far we have only had one order turned in.
The poinsettias are beautiful for you to display in your home and they
make a wonderful gift. Go back to
your stack and find the order form. Or
call the office to get another one.J
Next, Parent’s Club has
the opportunity to work the concession stand for VYO to earn money for SPPA.
Please take a look at the enclosed flyer.
It is a good thing! SCRIPT
ORDERS Once
again we have the opportunity to do some of our Christmas Shopping through
SPPA. The Script Order forms are
enclosed for your convenience. If your plan to purchase gift cards for you family and
friends, SPPA is the place to shop. Again,
it serves double duty, a gift purchased and money earned for SPPA. REMINDER FOR THE JINGLE BELL SHOP Please
turn in all the crafts you have been working on for the Jingle Bell shop as
soon as possible so we know how much we have and what we may need.
Thanks for your help. CLEANING SCHEDULE 11-24 through 11-28 Lichtenberg and Madsen MARKET DAY Market
Day has a special event going on this time that can benefit you and the
school.
Last week you received a flyer for cookie dough.
This is a good fundraiser for the school. A little explanation may help you decide to give a tub of
cookie dough as a gift especially to someone with sweet tooth.
For each tub of cookie dough we sell the school receives $2.00.
However, if we sell 250 or more we would receive $3.00 per tub. So our goal is an aggressive sales number of 250.
At your Thanksgiving gatherings you can entice those around you to
purchase for a good cause. For your convenience we are enclosing another
Cookie Dough Flyer inside the normal Market Day Flyer.
The pick up date for all orders is December 8th.
SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER Now
that cold weather has arrived we need to be aware of the “No Idle” policy
enacted as a result of Jarod’s Law that was passed last year.
When you arrive in the afternoon to pick up your children you should
not sit with your vehicle idling for longer than 5 minutes.
This policy was sent home at the beginning of the year and a copy is on
file in the office. If you have
any questions please give me a call. STUDENT COUNCIL Student
Council has joined the gift giving spirit of Christmas by having a “Penny
War” between the classes. Please
read the enclosed flyer for information about the event.
All proceeds go to the Giving Tree Family from Sts. Peter and Paul
Church. ADVENT The
First Sunday of Advent is November 30th.
We will be celebrating Advent each day by reading about the events of
Advent and placing ornaments on the Jesse Tree.
This will be our morning prayer routine during the month of December.
Feel free to join us if you have a few extra morning minutes.
HELP NEEDED TO HELP FEED THE FAMILIES IN THE VALLEY Sts.
Vincent de Paul Society and Sts. Peter and Paul Parish
would appreciate any donations from SPPA to assist with meeting the
needs of many families in our area. Please
read the enclosed purple flyer for more information. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As a cost saving measure to our families, we are going to start using
cloth towels to clean in the cafeteria. This
is also a tree saving measure because it will greatly reduce the number of
paper towels we will use. As
a result of this change we will need someone to volunteer to wash the towels
each week. This will give you 2
volunteers hour per week. (WHICH
MEANS - We need donations of kitchen or shop towels.
If you are interested in donating some towels please call Brenda.
Thank you in advance.) We also need some one to volunteer to wash the mop heads and dust mop
heads. Dust mops would only need
to be cleaned once a month. The
mop heads need it weekly. This
would also give you 2 volunteer hours per week.
The mop heads do have to be washed individually.
