ALUMINUM CAN Drive Going Indefinitely
Sts. Peter and Paul Academy is GOING GREEN! That means, we are recycling, reducing and reusing everything we can to help the environment and to leave a cleaner world for future generations.
How? First, there is an ALUMINUM Dumpster behind the school near the Cafeteria entrance. Here you may recycle pop cans or any aluminum can. You may not recycle steel cans in this dumpster. You can do the magnet test to make sure your can is recyclable aluminum. The magnet will not stick to aluminum. Sts. Peter and Paul Academy has won the Rumpke Recycle challenge for most cans recycled per capita for our school several quarters. This results in a cash prize for the Academy. We can really use this extra blessing. Please keep those aluminum cans coming in. Please pass the word to your neighbors and friends.
Our Plastic Recycling is in the Cafeteria. Our children recycle all plastic containers, (with the help from Mr. Dave McDaniels, who collects these and takes them to the recycling center)
Remember to Reduce, ReUse, Recycle!
From time to time, Sts. Peter and Paul Academy will be collecting scrap metal to raise funds for our school. We will announce weekends when the dumpster will be on the property for SCRAP METAL. Please do not drop items at 644 Blanche Ave. in Arlington Heights. Dave is no longer able to take the items at his house. Local pick-up may be available. IF YOU DON’T SEE YOUR ITEM, NEED PICKUP OR HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE EMAIL: dmcdaniel_8788@fuse.net
As of 4/15/07 the scrap metal drive has raised over $2000 FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF ITEMS WE CAN ACCEPT.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU NEED HELP WITH STUFF I CAN BRING MY
TRUCK. PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO CALL. There are several types of metal, but the two main
categories are ferrous and non ferrous. The lowest priced non ferrous metal is
.50 per pound, and some go much higher! A simple test is that if a magnet does
not stick, it is non-ferrous. Just because something feels light does not mean
it isn’t worth the time! It is really helpful to have cords cut off appliance as
close as you can, and also to have handles removed from cookware, etc. Ideally
we will be given “clean” metal, that is metal that has nothing plastic
attached. Of course, if you don’t have tools to do these things I will
(hopefully with the help of volunteers) do it once the metal arrives. Refrigerators must have refrigerant removed or they cannot be accepted. Air conditioners should have refrigerant removed but will be accepted either way, as they contain more valuable parts than refrigerators. Dave McDaniel 513 477 2468 cell 821-6707 home |
