Sts. Peter and Paul Academy is a Private Elementary School Teaching in the Catholic Tradition.

       An Introduction

A Chartered Nonpublic Catholic School

-         The School is modeled after Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School in Liberty Township. (Board of Directors, follow Archdiocese curriculum, follow State of Ohio curriculum, etc.).

-         The school is a Corporation and ran by a Board of Directors.

-         School will eventually operate as a 501(c)3 (non-profit).

-         We do not get state reimbursement or auxiliary services for the first year.

-         State of Ohio will be able to offer bussing and special education the first year.

-       The Academy has been issued its Charter from the State of Ohio Dept. of Education. The Academy operated under a Letter of Approval by the State during its first year, 2007-2008.

-         In order to be recognized affiliated school by the Archdiocese, we must follow their Curriculum/ Graded Course of Study.

-         We are “teaching in the spirit of the Catholic faith.” We are currently seeking to become a recognized affiliated school by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

-         We can earn a provisional charter from the Archdiocese after our first year.  Once we have a provisional charter, we can call ourselves a “Catholic” academy.

-        Once recognized by the Archdiocese, a minimal fee will be paid to the Archdiocese annually. This fee will pay for services offered by the Archdiocese to the Academy.

Role of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish

Sts. Peter and Paul Academy will be totally independent of any parish.  A pastor has no say in anything having to do with the Academy’s day-to-day operations.  The Board of Directors may ask the pastor of the neighboring church to attend the Board meetings.  We hope that the pastor of the neighboring parish be involved in administering the sacraments to our children.

Role of the Archdiocese

The Academy will follow the Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study.  Once we are a recognized affiliated school by the Archdiocese, a minimal fee is assessed annually by the Archdiocese on a per/pupil basis. The accreditation process can take 2-4 years. Once recognized by the Archdiocese, we can use “Catholic” in our name.

Tuition/ Admissions

Tuition for grades K-8 is $2,200.  Children from any parish are permitted to attend.  A child or their family does not have to be Catholic for their child to attend. We are thinking about possibly having half-day kindergarten.

An application for financial aide will need to be completed by those families wishing to request financial assistance.  Anyone who requests financial assistance will not receive total tuition coverage.  An independent company will be accessing the financial information and will make recommendations to one of the Co-Treasurers on the Executive Board of Directors. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with TAPCE in hopes their fundraising efforts will lower the cost of tuition.

Parents or guardians must agree to a minimum of 30 hours/year of volunteer work for their child(ren) to be enrolled. Since we are now a private academy, the Board of Directors can require parents/guardians to participate in volunteer positions in order for their child(ren) to attend the Academy.

Curriculum

We are using the Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study as the basic curriculum.

Religion will still be taught just as it is today.  Prayer will be part of everyday at this school. It is planned that the children will continue to go to Mass weekly and on Holy Days.

Enrichment classes such as Science lab, Art, Technology, Music, Foreign Language, Public Speaking will be incorporated into the Curriculum as teachers, parents, students, and volunteers from the community want to develop these.

We currently incorporate members of our surrounding community to act as role models for our children.  Working with MND, Moeller, St. Xavier, Reading High School, as well as senior citizen groups, we will request the leaders from these organizations act as tutors, mentors, readers, provide leadership workshops, etc. for our children.

Sts. Peter and Paul Academy will strive towards a community enhanced, faith-filled, well-rounded and balanced curriculum that will develop the whole child.

Opening Date

August 2007 was our opening school year. We operated under a Letter of Approval from the State of Ohio Department of Education for the first year. After much hard work and effort, mounds of paperwork and site visitations, Sts. Peter and Paul Academy received their School Charter from the State in June 2008.

Class Sizes

Initially, we hope to have one class per grade unless enrollment demands more than one.

Athletics

The Athletic Board at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish still plans to offer the same programs as they always have.

Computers/Technology

We are currently seeking donations from area businesses.  If anyone else has suggestions or contacts, please let us know.

Hot Lunches

A hot lunch program was initiated the first year at SPPA.More students wanted to bring their lunches and not enough students or families were interested in the program, so it ended.

For the 2008-09 school year, if the parents and students are interested, the hot lunch program will be brought back.

Music, Art, Computer, Science Lab Classes

These positions will be filled with experienced, qualified volunteers interviewed and approved by the Principal.
